Diction

Diction: the word choice of authors and how they play into the theme and the overall impact of a work of literature. Some works draw upon specific words just as Ozymandias where the diction made the poem seem bleak contrasting the once powerful ruler, Ozymandias. In other works, To His Coy Mistress and Out, Out! use beautiful words to make something on the darker side of life seem nice and pretty externally when both messages have a message that is unusual. Essentially, diction is everything in a liturgical works as they are quite literal what the work is composed of: words. They ultimately create the work and its impact, not the author who simply orchestrates them together.
